St. Petersburg University, the oldest Russian university was founded in 1724 by Peter the Great. The University has always been an academic leader in all fields of science and technology in Russia.
Today the University has 32 000 students, 13 000 staff, 6 000 academic teachers. 24 faculties covering all possible fields of study – from medicine and physics to law and philology – welcome students from all corners of Russia, the CIS and many foreign countries. Numerous student clubs, studios, scientific and art museums, libraries, laboratories, choirs and dance and sports associations combine to create a very vibrant university environment.
The University has more than 300 academic from partners all over the world. It is an active member of important international associations and academic mobility programs.
The Advisory Board of the University is headed by Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister and ex-President of the Russian Federation. Among the members of the Board are Russian Ministers, Governors, members of the State Duma (Russian Parliament), as well as presidents of the largest banks and companies.
The University is proud of its Alumni including 8 Nobel winners, globally renowned scientists, 4 Presidents, Ministers, CEOs of the leading companies, great artists and Olympic champions.
The main University campus comprises historical buildings in the very heart of St. Petersburg representing one including some of the most panoramic views of the city. The University faculties and institutes are located around the center of the city and in the loveliest of its suburbs – Peterhof. This year the University announced the opening of the new campus “Mikhailovskaya Dacha”, a former Grand Duke’s residence beautifully restored and equipped with cutting-edge technology.
